Sparkies climbed on furniture to put wires inot the olds part of teh roof, painters touched up all the misdemeanours of other tradesmen ( yes all men) and the kitchen slotted in to alignment. The day started with Steve the kitchen man arriving through the darkened hall and introducing himself to me as I made lunches in my dressing gown!
Jerry chose a new paint for the feature wall and procured that last two cans of it inCHCH - we will be he first to have it used from the 2010 Resene range. The rain stopped … for a few days.

Seriously over the process! The rain has arrived so the place is surrounded by mud. Very grateful to Steve from BOBCAT Services who realised that once the rain came we would need the drive way and that more shingle around the place was needed today. His before the fact approach is refereshing!
The tilers, in the only week they had to be here, moved in and took over. Bathroom looks great and the grey tiles throughout look as expected which for some reason I am surprised by! More wood and tiles were needed which is nerve wracking as the budget extends…. We have not had access to teh house which is a strange feeling. They move out tomorrow and we will cover the tiles and hope they remain pristine. Grouting will come later after the heating has been installed and the slab is brought up to temperature and eveaprates moisture in the slab. This is something not usually done here but since both tiler and engineer are German we have decided to follow their advice. I just wish they had both offered it earlier!
The painters did a great job and have gone to the top of the trust list. We have used Soapstone right through and it is amazing how it varies in the light. Pinkish in some places ( Scary!), brwon in other and very white in others. The painter is fastidious and has marked all imperfections that need revisitig with an orange dot. Having been working ( less fastidiously) on Nick’s room I think this an excellent idea.
The deck is formed and filled with gravel and after much travelling of sleepers all over the city in an effort to get them split the idea of using them as surrounds has been abandoned! I did get to see Southern Dimantelers as a result and was very impressed by the classification of demolition material in their yard. Sorted and stored in seriously clasiified orders ….
A stuff up due to the builders not reading plans means the fire place is not installed and will need to be ripped apart and rendered compliant. It really is ridiculous - plans and instructions were on site in a folder provided by me but they are NEVER referred to. Quote : “If I could read I wouldn’t be a builder”
The old house is full of dust.

We also have a garage door! It looks good with all the features Murray envisaged - the feature wall, pillars and windows all line in hoizontals and are matched by the door panels. When the metalic goes on the effect will be complete. Will put up a pic when I next trudge out inot the mud. …..
Oh and the kitchen install .. May 26th. Numbers have continues to fly around in a somewhat flexible manner and I am nervously awaiting delivery of the actual object to see what we get! Did make a great coup on the dishdrawer at Smiths City and got it and a smaller microwave ( the result of one of the flexible numers) for the price quoted at Powerstore.

Panels in mdf have been cut and are being glued and stapled onto the interior. Exterior panels in Titan will be rendered the same and the effect will be one continous wall from which the living areas will be “hung”.
Wall is to be painted in Solarguard Pewter - a roof paint for which we will need to install UV light to treat it.
